Intracranial hydatid cysts: A case series
Ashfaq ul Hassan, Sajid Shafi, Khursheed, Obaid, Zahida Rasool and Muneeb Ul Hassan

Hydatidosis is not common in Kashmir, India which is located in the Northern Himalayan foothills. All the more the presence of Hydatid cysyts in Brain is a rarity. Hydatid disease is caused by the infestation of the larvae of taenia echinococcus. The definite hosts of echinococcus are various carnivores, the common being the dog. All mammals (more often being sheep and cattle) are intermittent hosts. Humans get infected through the faeco-oral route by ingestion of food or milk contaminated...

A rare case of omental infarction with special emphasis on anatomy and embryogenesis of Omentum
Ashfaq ul Hassan, Shifan Khandey and Obaid

A 45year old female presented to emergency with severe intermittent, worsening abdominal pain. These symptoms were indicative of acute abdomen. Preliminary investigations were not helpful but In due course, Computer Tomography imaging established findings indicative of omental infarction. Patient was discharged from hospital two weeks later, having made a satisfactory recovery following successful conservative treatment without any surgical intervention.

Effect of sulphur amendment levels on calcareous saline sodic soil and squash yield in Saudi Arabia
Wakid Mutowal, Samir Gamil Al-Solaimani and Saleh Mahmoud Ismail

Production of vegetable crops under calcareous soil faced many problems, such as soil salinity and sodicity. Three sulphur amendment levels (SAL) with (0 (control), 4, and 6 ton/ha) was applicated to study its effect on reclamation of this soil and produce squash crop during 2 successive seasons of winter and spring (2012-2013). The contents of soil nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), pH, electric conductivity (EC), and organic matter (OM) in 2 soil depths ((0-15) cm and (15-30) cm...

In vivo toxicity studies and phytochemical screening of stem bark of Ficus sycomorus Linn (Moraceae)
Bello Oluwasesan, M., Gafar Maryam, K., Abdullahi Haruna and Zack Agbendeh, M.

Ethnopharmacological relevance of Ficus sycomorus is quite obvious; it is used in the treatment of Diabetes mellitus and other infectious diseases in the Northern Nigeria. The present study is aimed at investigating the toxicity of methanol stem bark extract of Ficus sycomorus Linn (Moraceae) in vivo. The preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract revealed the presence of flavonoids, glycosides, reducing sugars, resins, saponins and tannins. The result of the experimental animal...

Geoelectrical and geotechnical data as veritable tools for feasibility study of the proposed Imo river dam site at...
Ibeneme S. I., Ibe K. K., Selemo A. O., Nwagbara J. O., Eze I. O., Ubechu B. O., Ibeneme I. L., Nwankwo E. J., Oparaocha J. O.

Geoelectrical and geotechnical investigations have been carried out around the proposed Imo River dam site at Owerrinta, Southeastern Nigeria. This was aimed at establishing the downward and lateral trends of the rock layers or units, determining the presence or otherwise of deleterious matter along the dam axis down to a depth of 35m below the surface, evaluating the geo-structural setting of the concealed bedrock, the fracture pattern and possible dam seepage along the dam axis and its...

Comparative study of the siderophores produced by Pseudomonas sp. isolated from apple rhizosphere of trans-himalayan...
Sapna Sharma, Manoj Kumar and Mohinder Kaur

Replant disease is a major problem of apple orchard, which is a main cash crop in Trans-Himalayan region. Among different approaches, application of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobaceria (PGPR) at replant site is one of the promising method. Therefore the present study was directed toward the isolation of Pseudomonas strains from different altitudes of apple rhizosphere. Based on Plant Growth Promoting Trait (PGPT) two potential strains were selected with main focus on siderophore production....

Acute and chronic toxicity of chromium on biochemical composition of the fresh water major carp Cirrhinus mrigala (...
Dr. B. Dhanalakshmi

Heavy metal contamination may have devastating effects on the ecological balance of the recipient environment and on diversity of aquatic organisms. Heavy metal as an environmental stressor may alter the glycogen content in fishes. Cirrhinus mrigala was exposed to different acute and chronic toxicity of chromium sulphate at 0.25ppm to investigate changes in the tissue biochemical parameter after 24hrs, 48hrs, 72 hrs and 10 days, 20 days and 30 days respectively. In the present investigation...

Climate change and its effect on coastal area of Bangladesh
Sonia Sharmin

Bangladesh is likely to be one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change. This paper discusses the possible impacts of climate change in coastal zone of Bangladesh through tropical cyclones, storm surges, coastal erosion and sea level rise. The possible increase in cyclone frequency in the Bay of Bengal, lying south of Bangladesh, due to climate change is looked at by analyzing the cyclone data for 119 yr. Both qualitative and quantitative discussions are made on...

Vegetation status of agroforestry systems in tehri district of garhwal himalaya, India
Arvind Bijalwan

The present study was conducted to study the vegetation status of agroforestry systems in Tehri district of Garhwal Himalaya, India at different elevations ranging from 1000m to 2500m asl. There were total 31 forest tree species, 14 fruit tree (horticulture) species, 25 herbs and 20 shrubs were recorded in different agroforestry systems. The enormous change in the vegetation particularly in tree species were recorded in the altering elevation. The tree species like Grewia optiva, Celtis...

Evaluation of garhwal himalaya medicinal plant Grevia oppositifolia fruit
Subhash Chandra, Sarla SaklaniI, Abhay P. Mishra and Parbeen Singh

The present study aimed at evaluating the nutritional profile, antinutritional value, mineral value, successive value, TLC analysis and phytochemical screening of wild edible fruit of Grevia Oppositifolia were investigated by standard method. The fruits have been found to rich in nutrients and minerals such as crude protein, carbohydrates, crude fiber, ash content (3.12%, 22.14%, 16.0% and 4.20%) and minerals as calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus (5.75, 2.98, 1.18 and 0.50 mg/100gm...

Identification of ebola virus natural reservoir in central africa: Serological study and molecular detection of ebola...
Brice Serge Kumulungui, Philippe Yaba, Gino Boussiengui-Boussiengui, Tatiana Wittmann, Xavier Pourrut, André Délicat, Pierre Rouquet,...

We used the IgG seroprevalence and RNA sequences to determine the potential host candidate for EBOV virus amongst the collected small vertebrates. The seroprevalence rates of EBOV-specific Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and EBOV RNA sequences were assessed to determine the EBOV reservoir. IgG specific for Ebola virus was detected in serum from three different bats species namely Hypsignathus monstrosus, Epomops franqueti and Myonicteris torquata. Two of the main organs targeted by Ebola virus are...
