Metal Complexes Of Compartmental Ligands, Synthesis, Spectroscopic Characterization And Chemotherapeutic Studies

New series of symmetric and asymmetric binuclear Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), Fe(III), Cd(II) and Cr(III) complexes with newly synthesized ligand 4, 6-bis-[1-(2-hydroxy-ethylimino)-ethyl]-benzene-1, 3-diol have been synthesed. The ligand and its metal complexes have been characterized using IR, Mass, 1H NMR, UV–Vis., elemental analysis, conductance, magnetic moments, ESR and Thermal gravimetric analyses (DTA – TGA). Elemental and spectral data indicate octahedral structures for the prepared complexes. Molar conductances in DMF commensurate non- electrolyte. The ligand and its metal complexes show antitumor inhibitory activity against hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG-2 cell line). Also, the ligand and its complexes were screened for antibacterial activity against two Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli and gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillis subtilis and Streptococcus pneumonia using the disc diffusion and micro Broth dilution assays. Also, the same complexes were tested against fungi including Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans.
