Multi-rate asynchronous sub-Nyquist sampling (MASS) followed by a two stage sensing scheme for cognitive radios where energy detection is used in the first stage and cyclostationary detection in the second stage is proposed. The detection parameters in both the stages are used s to maximize Probability of detection and to minimize the probability of false alarm. Compared to previous approaches, two-stage MASS offers lower sampling rate, robust against lack of time synchronization, more accuracy and is more robust to fading environments. Also it is an attractive approach for cognitive radio networks.
